At the present stage of medical science development, the role of hyperuricemia as the factor of chronic kidney disease progression is actively discussed. Some epidemiological studies have been presented to evaluate the relationship between uric acid levels and the progression of disease. Despite their multiplicity, the data on the presence of this correlation, as well as on the impact of uric acid-lowering therapy remain very controversial and ambiguous. The causes are the variety in the endpoints of the studies, their insufficient duration or small number of participants, as well as the lack of researches of alternative medications. To clarify the prognostic significance of hyperuricemia and the need for its correction, further targeted studies are required.
